Just a 1 hour drive from Manzanillo, this capital city's recorded history reaches back to 1523 when Spanish conquistadors staked their claim to the area. It is actually much older, however, as evidenced by a recent discovery that unearthed a 25,000 acre stone complex consisting of pyramids with a rich history. The civilization known as La Campana most likely dates back to 100 - 500 AD, and its culture may have direct descendent's to the Nahuati-speaking people of the surrounding hillside villages. In town, mariachi music fills the air and the bells in the cathedral toll on the hour. There is a very wide range of sights on this day trip and your tour guide is familiar with everything there is to know about Colima. Take a walking tour through town and visit the capital government building. Although shopping is also excellent, there are several sights to experience in the area, including a hill in which your car seemingly coasts upward! For high adventure, visit the live Colima volcano and hope your not close during the next eruption! Lunch in town with the restaurant that has no menu is a delight, while the mariachi entertains. A great day out and highly recommended. Plan on departing mid-morning and returning for dinner.
